Why Visit Deosai National Park?
Deosai National Park is a vast high-altitude plateau between Skardu and Astore. Local people call it the Land of Giants, and with an average height of around 4,000 metres it is often described as the second highest plateau in the world. In summer, the open plains turn green and are covered in wildflowers, with streams, marmots and, if you are lucky, the Himalayan brown bear.
Unlike crowded tourist spots, Deosai gives you wide, quiet landscapes and some of the clearest night skies in Pakistan. It is also easy to combine with a classic Skardu trip: Skardu Valley tours take in Shangrila, Kachura Lakes and Katpana Cold Desert, and you can add the peaceful Basho Valley for a longer itinerary.
KayinaatTrip is a local tour operator based in Skardu. We plan your Deosai tour with experienced 4x4 drivers, safe camping spots and flexible days, so you can enjoy the plateau without stress.

Best Time to Visit Deosai
Deosai is a seasonal destination. Heavy snow closes the plateau for most of the year, and it generally opens to vehicles in early summer. Conditions change each year, so we confirm road status before your departure.
| Period | What to Expect | Good For |
|---|---|---|
| June | Roads may just be opening; patches of snow, cold nights, fewer visitors. | Snow scenery, quiet trips |
| July - August | Peak season: wildflowers in bloom, green plains, mild days, cold nights. | Flowers, photography, camping |
| September | Clear skies and golden colours, but nights get colder and weather can turn quickly. | Landscapes, stargazing |
| October - May | Snowbound and generally closed to tourists. | Not recommended |

With almost no light pollution, the night sky is spectacular. We arrange tents, bedding and meals for a comfortable camping night.

Look for marmots, birds and, with patience, the Himalayan brown bear. Our guides know the best viewing areas and how to keep a safe distance.
See the Wildflowers
In mid-summer the plains are covered in colourful alpine flowers, one of the most beautiful sights in the Karakoram and Himalaya region.
Landscape Photography
Sunrise and sunset light over the open plateau, streams and distant peaks makes Deosai a dream location for photographers.
Scenic 4x4 Drive
The jeep ride itself is an adventure, with stream crossings, high passes and big views, including the stop at Sadpara Lake on the way up from Skardu.
Nature
Himalayan Brown Bears & Wildlife in Deosai
Deosai National Park was created to protect the Himalayan brown bear, one of the rarest large mammals in Pakistan. The bears live across a huge area and are shy by nature, so spotting one is a special moment rather than a guarantee.
You may also see marmots near their burrows, many bird species and, in the wider region, other mountain wildlife. To protect the park: stay on the tracks, keep your distance, never feed animals and take all rubbish with you.
Wildlife viewing tips
- Go early in the morning or near sunset.
- Use binoculars or a zoom lens, not close approach.
- Stay with your guide at all times.
- Keep food sealed and rubbish out of the plains.

Getting there
How to Reach Deosai from Skardu
Most visitors start from Skardu. The route heads out of town toward Sadpara Lake and then climbs a rough mountain track up to the plateau. Plan a full day for the trip, as the road is slow, and always go with a 4x4 jeep and a driver who knows the route.
To reach Skardu itself, you can take a domestic flight (weather dependent) or travel by road along the Karakoram Highway via Gilgit. Deosai also connects toward Astore on the other side of the plateau, which allows a one-way crossing on some routes. Tell us what you prefer and we will plan the transport.
