Why Visit Hunza Valley?

Hunza Valley is one of the most beautiful and most visited parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, set along the Karakoram Highway at the foot of giants such as Rakaposhi (about 7,788 m) and Ultar Sar. The valley is known for old forts, terraced fields, orchards, turquoise Attabad Lake and the friendly, hospitable people of Hunza and Gojal.

Every season has its own look. In April, apricot and cherry blossoms cover the valley. Summer is green and clear, and in October the trees turn gold and red. You can enjoy all of this without difficult trekking, which makes Hunza a great choice for families, couples, photographers and first-time visitors to Northern Pakistan.

Hunza also fits easily into a longer journey. Add Fairy Meadows on the way, or continue to Skardu and Deosai. KayinaatTrip is a local tour operator, so we arrange transport, hotels and guides and can adjust any itinerary to your dates and budget.

Top Places to Visit in Hunza Valley

These are the places most travelers include on a Hunza tour, from historic forts in Karimabad to the high Karakoram scenery near the Chinese border.

Karimabad & Baltit Fort

Karimabad is the main town and base of Hunza Valley, and Baltit Fort stands above it on a ridge. The fort is several centuries old and has been carefully restored, with a museum inside and wide views of the valley, Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar from the top. It is the first stop on almost every Hunza tour.

Altit Fort & Altit Village

Altit Fort is considered even older than Baltit and sits on a cliff above the Hunza River. The narrow lanes of Altit village around it are lovely for a slow walk, with traditional houses, orchards and small cafes.

Eagle Nest (Duikar) Viewpoint

Eagle Nest is the most famous viewpoint in Hunza. From here you can see a wide arc of snow peaks, including Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, Golden Peak and Lady Finger. Sunrise and sunset are the best times and a clear morning is unforgettable.

Rakaposhi Viewpoint

Rakaposhi rises to about 7,788 metres and is one of the most striking mountains in the Karakoram. There are good viewpoints along the Karakoram Highway and in Karimabad where you can stop for photos on the way into the valley.

Attabad Lake

Attabad Lake was created in 2010 when a huge landslide blocked the Hunza River. Today its turquoise water is one of the best-known sights in Gilgit-Baltistan. You can take boat rides on the lake and drive through the tunnels built along its shore.

Passu Cones & Passu Glacier

Passu is famous for the jagged Passu Cones (also called Cathedral Ridge) that tower over the village. The area also has the Passu Glacier and easy walks with dramatic views, making it a photographers favourite.

Hussaini Suspension Bridge

One of the most photographed bridges in Pakistan, this long and wobbly rope-and-plank bridge crosses the Hunza River near Passu. Most visitors walk a short section for the thrill and the pictures; take care and follow your guide.

Borith Lake

A calm lake near Passu and Hussaini village, surrounded by hills and with views toward the Passu peaks. It is a quiet spot for a short walk, a picnic and sunset pictures.

Khunjerab Pass

At about 4,693 metres, Khunjerab Pass is the high mountain crossing between Pakistan and China and one of the highest paved border crossings in the world. It is usually open to visitors in the summer season and offers dramatic high-altitude scenery. Rules and opening dates can change, so check before you go.

Nagar Valley & Hopper Glacier

Across the river from Karimabad, Nagar Valley has quiet villages, orchards and views of the Rakaposhi range. Hopper Glacier is a popular add-on for travelers who enjoy walking, and is easier to reach on a day trip from Karimabad.
