Why Visit Fairy Meadows?

Fairy Meadows is a green alpine plateau at about 3,300 metres in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. It lies at the foot of Nanga Parbat, the ninth highest mountain in the world, and is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Pakistan. Locals know the meadow by another name, Joot, but the name Fairy Meadows has become famous worldwide.

What makes it special is how close the mountain feels. After a thrilling jeep ride and a few hours of trekking through pine forest, you step onto open meadows with Nanga Parbat filling the sky. You can camp or stay in wooden cottages, take the hike to Beyal Camp and watch the summit change colour at sunrise.

Fairy Meadows fits well with a bigger northern Pakistan journey. After your trek, you can continue to Hunza or travel on to Skardu and the high plains of Deosai. KayinaatTrip is a local tour operator, so we arrange transport, jeeps, stays and guides and can adjust any itinerary to your dates and budget.

Top Things to Do at Fairy Meadows

Nanga Parbat Views

Nanga Parbat rises to about 8,126 metres and is the ninth highest mountain in the world. It is often called the Killer Mountain because of its difficult climbing history. From Fairy Meadows you get a close, dramatic view of its huge north face, especially clear at sunrise and in the evening light.

Beyal Camp

Beyal is a summer grazing area higher up the valley, reached by a hike through pine forest above Fairy Meadows. It offers wider views of Nanga Parbat and the glacier below it. Most people treat it as a half-day hike and it is the most popular excursion from the meadow.

Nanga Parbat Base Camp (Raikot Side)

For fit hikers, the trail continues beyond Beyal toward the base camp on the Raikot side of the mountain. It is a long, full-day outing at higher altitude, so it depends on your fitness, the weather and the trail condition. Ask us if you want this added to your package.

Raikot Bridge & the Jeep Track

Your adventure begins at Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway, where you switch to a local 4x4 jeep. The track to Tato is narrow and steep, with big drops, so it is only driven by experienced local drivers. The ride itself is a highlight for many travelers.

Tato Village

Tato is the last village on the jeep road and the starting point of the trek. It is a good place for a tea stop, a first look at the mountains and a chance to meet local people before you walk up to the meadow.

Pine Forests & Meadow Walks

The trail and the meadow itself are surrounded by pine and fir forest. In summer the grass is green and dotted with wildflowers, making relaxed walks and picnics a pleasure while the peak stays in view.

Camping & Stargazing

With very little light pollution, the night sky above Fairy Meadows is spectacular. You can stay in simple wooden cottages or camp, depending on your package and the season.

Sunrise on Nanga Parbat

Wake early on a clear morning to see the first light turn the summit gold. It is one of the best moments of the trip and a favourite for photography, so keep your camera ready.

Getting there

How to Reach Fairy Meadows

Fairy Meadows has no road to the top, so the last part of the journey is on foot. The route is the same for every trip:

Step 1: Drive to Raikot Bridge

Travel along the Karakoram Highway to Raikot Bridge, which lies between Chilas and Gilgit. From Islamabad this is a long drive, so many groups split it with a night stop.

Step 2: 4x4 Jeep to Tato

Transfer to a local 4x4 jeep for the steep, narrow track to Tato village. Private cars cannot use this road.

Step 3: Trek to Fairy Meadows

Walk uphill through forest for roughly 3 to 5 hours, with Nanga Parbat appearing as you climb. Horses or porters may be available for luggage.
